Scienceworks

“At first we arrived at Scienceworks, we got off the bus and went to Alice in Wonderland exhibition. There was a little tunnel and we all went through it. On the other side there was a little world in a cabinet with a half sphere with a camera on the end. There was a mat there with a big dice. We went to next place, it was a place with golf balls and a track to put them on. There was also a house you could put your hands and head through. After we went to the Energy Lab to watch the show about the Sun, Moon and Earth. Then we went to the Planetarium and saw the stars movie. It was a great day at Scienceworks.” Cooper F

“On Thursday the 27th of August we all went to Scienceworks. It took us 1 hour to get there. When we arrived there we put our bag on the shelves and got our snacks out. First we went to Alice in Wonderland tunnel and I went through to the other room. Then we went to the sports room. After we had a little snack and went down to the Energy Lab. At the Energy Lab we learnt the Earth is very tiny compared to the Sun. Then after lunch we all went upstairs to the Planetarium. The movie was very funny. When it finished we got on the bus and went back to school.” T’Shen

“Yesterday we went to Scienceworks. First we got on the bus and it took an hour to get there. When we got there we went to the Alice in Wonderland exhibition and some of us fell through the hole. I didn’t, I went around. There were lots of things even a room that makes you seem smaller and taller. Then we went to Sportsworks. Cooper and I raced and Cooper won. There was a place to pitch a baseball and I got it through the hole. I also did rock climbing and got to the top. Then we had lunch. After we watched Sun, Moon and Earth show. Then we had snack. Next we went to the Planetarium to watch a movie about the seasons and the stars.” Yianni

We created our own grids outside using chalk. We used co-ordinates to describe the position of the objects we drew.

Can you think of other times you might use grid references?

School in days gone by.

Original Cuisenaire Rods Set

Lots of members of our grade are interested in finding out about SCHOOL in days gone by.

They have posed lots of interesting questions such as:

What games did they play at school?
Did they wear uniforms?
Why did they sit at desks?
What did the schools look like?

Ask your parents and friends about the desks they used at school. Who knows what these coloured , wooden blocks are?

Records, tapes and more......

We are learning  about  "Changes through Time"in our Inquiry Unit.
Ava brought in vinyl records and tapes to share with us. We listened  to tapes from the 1980's.... Billy Joel, KISS....   Mrs M. reflected on days gone by.....disco dancing and ABBA.
Who has  a record player hiding in their cupboard? Remember the song "Video Killed the Radio Star" ?
What do you use to listen to your favorite songs?

  • Ask your family members to tell you the name of their favorite songs, bands and singers.
  • Have a think about the different ways we can access and listen to music in 2015.

Our Inquiry topic this term is all about Changes through Time.

In Year Three we are learning about ways to increase our skills and challenge ourselves so we become more engaged, capable learners.
It is by asking "Why??????" that we discover new things and make connections with our learning.

See if you can work out what these things are. Can you identify their uses?
